Two of Texas’ best, Carroll and Denton Guyer, faced off in the Conference 6A Division II Area finals. Both the 17th ranked Dragons and 80th ranked Guyer in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings performed well, but it was Carroll that walked away with the win.
Carroll wasted no time in putting a large gap between them and the Wildcats, outdoing Guyer 17-7 in the first. By the half, the Dragons extended their lead to 31-14.
Going into the fourth with a 45-21 lead, Carroll felt pretty comfortable, but that is when the Wildcats turned up their game. Guyer marked 21 points in the final quarter, but it was not enough. Carroll put up 13 in the final quarter to walk away with a 58-42 victory.
It seemed like Carroll’s Ryan Agnew could not miss his target. The senior quarterback completed 21 of 24 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown. Agnew’s favorite target was Ryan McGiboney, whom he pick out eight times for 98 yards and the score.
On the ground, Agnew also picked up a pair of rushing scores. Another force on the ground was Lil’Jordan Humphrey. The 6’4” 200-pound running back carried the ball 28 times, gaining 182 yards and three touchdowns.
This win puts the Dragons in the regional finals where they are set to face San Angelo Central. The game is on Saturday November 26 at 1:00pm.
